NomNom 1.7 Twenty Eleven Child Theme – Released

Here’s the final version of NomNom 1.7. I’ve spent alot of time cleaning things up, adding a few new features and fixing bugs. I didn’t receive much feedback, so hopefully my own testing was enough.

– Added mobile menu style. Menus should look better on mobile devices. (Thanks to Digitalraindrops.net) – Added default color scheme colors to the bottom of submenus (was appearing white with all schemes). – Added 5 new Google fonts Ubuntu, Droid, Playfair, Lato, Rokkitt – Added a footer menu area. – Added new wp-pagenavi styles and new default page navigation styles CSS3. – Added functions to display adsense ads on single posts and pages. 468×60 and 250×250. One displays at the bottom, the other within the post top left. – Added function to display copywrite year based on first and last published post date, displays in the footer. – Added a custom child dark color scheme function to fix color issues (navigation, footer menu, wp-pagenavi etc) and allow styling of it. – Added a new Help & Tips tab with instructions, css snippets and links to snippets on the forums. Will update as needed. – Added IE conditional stylesheet styleIE.css – Added a custom-functions.php to users to include their own functions. – Added a site wide comment switch. This will turn the “Leave a reply” link, comment form, and comments on/off on all posts and pages.

*The social icon widget area and widget from the betas were removed, they caused too many issues with all the different layouts and font sizes.

Check the changelog for a list of all changes. If you notice an issue, please post a comment so I can fix it.

This is a major update, please backup your current theme before using this.

    Zeaks,

    Dig the Nom Nom theme, but I am having troubles activating the three footer widget areas. I have only modified a little css as follows, using the the options in the admin:

    h3.widget-title, .widget-title {
    line-height: 1.2em;
    }

    .two-right #secondary {
    width: 16%;
    }

    .two-right #extra-sidebar {
    width: 16%;
    }

    .two-right #content {
    width: 54%;
    }

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Tim

      Hi Tim. Open a forum post please and tell me what problem you’re having. I don’t see anything wrong with your website and I can’t see the footer widgets.

      Hi Knuth, it’s as compatible as Twenty Eleven would be. I didn’t create any special templates for bbpress, but there is a Twenty Eleven BBpress theme that should work well with it.

    Hello zeaks, again, again thanks for the child theme, and thanks for the support you’ve given me at the past. But I need your help again. I’m testing a new forum, that I am about to setup. Now I am using a forum called mingle. But the small amount of space that the theme gives it, makes it break up, so that it looks terrible. I am using your child theme, so do you know how to code the child theme so that it may give more space to specific pages, like my forum?

    Thanks in advance, regards

      Twenty Elevens default template doesn’t make use of the entire width of the page templates for some reason. Try adding this to your custom css

      .page-id-111 .singular .entry-header,
      .page-id-111 .singular .entry-content,
      .page-id-111 .singular footer.entry-meta,
      .page-id-111 .singular #comments-title {
          width: 90.9%;
      }

      You can also add this to fix your searchform, I’m not sure why it does that, I’ve noticed it on a few sites but I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue on my test site.

      #branding .with-image #searchform {
          bottom: -37px;

    The showcase template is designed to display a featured post and most recent posts. The showcase template is not a template you’ll want to use for your forum.

      well what shall I then use? When I’ve placed the custom css, nothing happens, what template am i going to use for the forum, to get it to work?

      regards

        You’re using the default page template now, the only problem I see is that it’s displaying the forum twice, did you post the shortcode for it twice?

        The next version of NomNom will have a BBpress template and style.

    I’d like to remove the header image on all the pages except my “home” page. Is there an easy way to do this in your child theme please? (great theme btw) Thanks

      Hi Dominic, you will have to add conditional CSS to hide the header for each page you don’t want it on. Find the body class for the page, then use #branding img { display:none; }

      I can’t tell you how to hide it on every page because I don’t know how your site is set up.

      You can use a specific page ID, or a more general ID such as .page if you’re not using a static page for your homepage.

      In a regular blog setup, this should hide it for most pages.

      .page #branding img,
      .single #branding img { display:none; }

      Here’s an example of using more specific classes

      .page-template-default #branding img,
      .page-template #branding img,
      .page-id-5266 #branding img { display:none; }

      Using FireBug makes it easy to find the body class.

    My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find most of your post’s to be just what I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for you personally? I wouldn’t mind publishing a post or elaborating on a few of the subjects you write with regards to here. Again, awesome site!
