Thirty Ten theme by Arron Jorbin was one of the first publicly released Twenty Ten child themes. He’s also written a great tutorial on creating child themes and what he’s done to create Thirty Ten that’s updated frequently.

It features a small theme options area and 3 layouts and he’s included some custom headers as well.

Extra Info and instructions

You MUST have Twenty Ten theme, the WordPress default theme installed to use this.

To install, any version 2.1 or newer, just upload through the admin interface, or upload with FTP.

There are two index files included, one with the RSS Feeds block, one without, look in the theme folder and you’ll find an index.php without the block, just replace the current one with that.

If you plan on using the Custom Avatars For Comments plugin, upload the commentavatars [download id="17"] to yoursite.com/wp-content/

Grid style page template- This can be used as a static page to show all of your posts in a grid style format. Simply select “Grid Page” from the page template menu when creating a page. It can be set as a static front page for those that want a magazine style layout.

WoWHead Tooltips- to use these, simply create a link to any item in wowheads database in your post or mage. More info on detailed links can be found here http://www.wowhead.com/tooltips

Warcraft Blue Post styled quotes – To use the wow quotes feature, use [ wowquote author="Author" title="Title" url="url" ]Content Here[ /wowquote ] in any post or page (without the spaces).

Item level Tags -I’ve added special tags in the css you can use to color text in your post the same color as items in game. Tags are as follows: artifact, heirloom, legendary, epic, rare, uncommon, common, poor. You can use these by using the html editor and adding for example – [

<span class="epic">Some Item Name</span>

this will change the font color of the item to epic item level color.

RSS Feed Block- I thought some might like this, it can be disabled easily though. There is no admin options for this feature.
To change the Left RSS feed in the block simply open index.php in your theme folder. and goto line 23 where it says

$rss = fetch_feed('http://www.wowarmory.com/character-feed.atom?r=feathermoon&cn=jae&locale=en_GB');

and change the url to your own RSS feed.

To change the RSS feed in the right block, goto line 47 and change

to your desired RSS feed.

To change the titles of these blocks, in the same file search for Cataclysm Feed and Character Feed and change them to whatever you like.

If you do not want the RSS feed block on your site, upload the included index.php (located in the “No-RSS-Index folder) to your theme folder overwriting the current one.

Included Headers- I’ve included 9 basic headers, goto admin>appearance>headers and select one. If the new header does not apply after first installing the theme, click “remove header image” save, then select one of the headers.

Plugins used and recomended

Extended recent comments- I choose to use this comment plugin because of how easy it was to style, and the layout of the recent comments was exactly what I was looking for. I’ve added styles for this plugin in the theme, just install and go.
Download here - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/extended-recent-comments/

Custom Avatars For Comments- This allows users to select an avatar when they make a comment instead of using the default Gravatars. I’ve included several avatars in the “commentavatars” folder. If you plan to use this plugin, simply upload the folder to yoursite/wp-content/ directory. The plugin should work with it’s default settings. If you experience an issues with only default avatars showing, switch to Twenty Ten theme, then back again, it should fix any issues.
Download here – http://www.nkuttler.de/wordpress/custom-avatars-for-comments/

AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild- If you experience any issues with featured images not displaying properly in the posts, or images too large etc, I recommend installing this and running it. After install goto tools > rebuild thumbnails and let it run, then view your site.

It’s been a while since I posted any new Twenty ten Child Themes on this site. I’ve been bookmarking them as I find them and one reader mentioned his own child theme in a comment so I thought I should get to work and post them.
First we have a Tumblr style child theme called Salju. I’ve played around with this theme and it’s really cool how it works. I’ve seen themes that require the use of woothemes tumblr plugin, this theme creates posts the same way, but without the use of a plugin. It has a nice background image and a snow effect built in, by WPCharity.com You can download it from their site Here – Salju Theme.

Simpleten Twenty Ten child theme

It took a  while but I finally got around to finishing Simpleten theme. It’s based off of the theme this site uses, but made to work with Twenty Ten. It’s nothing amazing, but it’s a clean easy to use all around theme with a few nice options and (I think) decent colors. You can even create your own color scheme by editing the supplied css.

Featured images are displayed in post excerpts for the grid and post excerpt layouts.

- 6 color schemes with an added user style you can edit yourself.
- 4 post layout styles including post excerpts, excerpts with featured image, grid style and regular style
- Options in the admin section.
- A full width forum page template for embedding a forum or store IE:Vanilla forums, SimplePress etc.
- Grayscale icons included, they are GPL.
- Valid CSS

Or read more about it on the theme page here http://zeaks.org/themes/simpleten. Let me know what you think of it.

I’ve finished the Warcraft Vanilla Forums theme that matches my 2010-Cataclysm theme. It’s the first time I’ve done anything with a forum theme before, so I’m sure there’s things I missed or didn’t notice.

This theme is meant to be installed on a forum that is using the wordpress embed plugin for Vanilla forums. What it does is places your forum into a page in your wordpress site, it’s very easy to use. Please read the instructions on how to use this plugin.

I’ve also added a special page template to use with the forum once it’s embeded called “forum-template” such a unique name I know, anyways it has a wider content area than the regular one column page template. You can get it by downloading the newest 2010-Cataclysm version.

Visit this post for full info http://zeaks.org/2010-cataclysm-theme/

I decided to go with Vanilla forum for my Warcraft theme since the embed plugin seems to work great and is easy to use. There’s still some work to be done to it, and alot of css and images to clean up, but it’s about 90% complete.

I had to create a new page template for the forum, the one that comes with Twenty Ten didn’t make use of the full width of the page. Let me know what you think. I’ll be releasing it once I finish the few things I had planned for the wordpress theme.

I made a few minor changes to the 2010 Cataclysm theme they are listed here. If you just want to update the files that were changed, upload the new style.css, and the blizzbg.png in the images folder.
I’d like to see any sites that are using this theme, I know of several so far, so feel free to post your link on the theme page or email me with the contact form and I’ll add it to the list.

Things to do.

Fixed author bio avatar, issues with the border.
Add “next and previous” links to the grid page. (can’t believe I didn’t notice that)
Add a forum theme. Not sure if I’ll go with vanilla, or maybe mingle, tired of waiting on the bbpress plugin.
Change font color for better readability.
Move the comment avatar selector above the comment box so it’s noticed better. At the moment it breaks the plugin if I move it and I’m not sure why.
Add style support for other Warcraft plugins.
Change the blockquotes style to use it’s own short tag and restyle regular blockquotes to look like in game npc quotes.
Fix various issues with image alignment.
Fix issue with long post title spacing
Add a layout switcher options pane
